Cuttack: Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist highlighted the contribution of international cricketers after their 10-run win against the Delhi Daredevils here at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
On the team’s consistency
The Deccan Chargers franchise has been one of the most consistent over the past two years. The side has shown a lot of consistency especially in defending totals. It is good that the batsmen are setting good totals and the bowlers are defending them. Even today, when it looked like the opposition was on course, the side managed to pull it off.
On Andrew Symonds’ performances with the bat and ball
Symonds was the match winner today. He did an outstanding job. Also the contribution from T Suman and Rohit Sharma helped us get to a competitive total. Chaminda Vaas’s experience came in handy in the end. Symmo [Andrew Symonds] is enjoying his cricket and is leading this group pretty well.
On Pragyan Ojha
He [Pragyan Ojha] has bowled well. He tries and gets wickets for us and I think everyone including him contributed to the victory. I think the foundation was laid by Symmo and then everyone just chipped in.
On the young Indian cricketers
Yeah … they are shaping pretty well. You don’t think they are overseas or Indian. But one must not forget that the foundation is laid by the experienced international cricketers.
On the next match versus Rajasthan Royals
We have got a few days off before we play our next game against Rajasthan Royals. So we will relax today and then will be back for training and regroup for the match. They are a good side so we need to be on the top of our game to beat them.
On the inclusion of two new franchisees for 2011
It would be really interesting to see the fourth season of IPL. I have heard that two new franchises will be in place. And then there will be auctions of players again. So it seems like these are exciting times for cricket.
On Deccan Chargers’ fans
We would like to thank the people of Cuttack for supporting us in large numbers. Considering the conditions here, they backed us throughout our stay here. I would also like to thank fans back in Hyderabad for their support. It is wonderful to be a part of such a fantastic concept.
