Match: Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders
When: March 20, 2010, 4 pm
Where: Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad
Who won: Rajasthan Royals
How: By 34 runs
Man of the match: Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, for his breezy 45 off 36 balls
MVP of the match: Shane Warne
What’d he do?: Shane Warne is a wily customer and employed his bowlers well to rein in the Knight Riders. He was brilliant in the field with his bowling changes and at last brought a smile on his team co-owner Shilpa Shetty’s face
Turning point: Brad Hodge’s wicket. The KKR opener was settled at the crease, and was looking to take the Knight Riders to victory. But then he danced down the track to a ball by Yusuf Pathan. The ball sneaked in between his bat and pad and uprooted the leg-stump. After his wicket, the Knight Riders were never really in the game
Dot-ball hero: Yusuf Pathan, who finished up with 11 dot balls at an impressive economy rate of 5.75
Captain vs. Captain: Warne was shrewd to choose to bat first. He didn’t take a single wicket in the match, but made great changes and controlled the flow of the match in the second half. His tactful changes stifled the opposition.
Ganguly, on the other hand, failed to stem the flow of runs. With the bat, he contributed well but got bogged down by the looming avalanche of the required run-rate. In the end, his team were bettered by the Royals, who humbled them in all departments of the game
Off-beat moment: T20 is all about out-foxing your opponent. Warnie put his tactical knowledge to good use by sending Pathan Sr. to open the bowling for Rajasthan Royals. He was spot-on with his judgement, as his move reaped the first victory of the tournament for the Royals
