Preview: MI vs KKR (IPL 2010 - Match 17)

What

The big one. Mumbai Indians, looking to make amends for the loss against RCB clash with Kolkata Knight Riders in the hunt for a redeeming win after the big defeat against Rajasthan.

When

March 22, 2010, 8 pm

Where

Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. With the previous encounters being absolute run-fests, it would be no surprise to see another match with close to a total of 350 runs being scored. Though the pitch favours the bowling side, it will be worth watching how many runs and wickets the pitch will conjure.

The Protagonists

The Mumbai Indians are still seething after their batting collapse against their previous opponents, the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They would want to put it behind them by winning this one and staying in the top half of the table. With big hitters like Pollard, Jayasuriya and Bravo, their side also has a good mixture of youth in the form of Rayudu, Saurabh Tiwary and Aditya Tare.

The Kolkata Knight Riders would be rueing the fact that their last match was a defeat caused by their inability to hit big when it mattered. The evergreen Dada is yet to find his feet, but with the likes of Chris Gayle, Owais Shah and Angelo Mathews, the team could cause some serious damage. Their bowling side, on the other hand, is now bolstered by the return of Shane Bond and Ishant Sharma.

What next?

Since both sides were beaten comprehensively by their respective opponents in their last match, they would want to bounce back strongly. Both teams have failed to make it to the top four in the last two editions of the tournament. Expect some serious action in this one, as former India openers Sourav and Sachin lock horns in a battle of wits.
