Newspaper round-up – March 22

“Things look a little ominous for Kolkata at the moment and they need to stem the rot in the next game itself. The team looks like it is hesitant and afraid to lose and perhaps the entry of Gayle will change the momentum for them,” wrote Steve Waugh in The Times of India.

“I was very happy to get the team and hope that the company will serve the country as it has done in the past in different fields of sports,” Subrata Roy, Chairman , Sahara Indian Parivar, told The Times of India. “A few Indian cricketers had suggested that Sahara should buy an IPL team. Since we share an emotional bond with these players, we had to buy a team. Soon, we will start planning and by September everything will be in place for sure,” he added.

“We take on the Mumbai Indians in our next game. They have also suffered a defeat at the hands of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Our contest against Sachin and company will be interesting, as both the teams will be desperate to get back to winning ways,” wrote Kolkata Knight Riders captain Sourav Ganguly in the Hindustan Times, on the eve of their match against the Mumbai Indians.

“Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist today appreciated the expansion of the Indian Premier League matches,” published the Indian Express. "It is good that IPL is expanding. Good substances will come up by this," it quoted Gilchrist as saying. “He said passion for cricket in India was the prime factor behind expansion of IPL matches and added the Deccan Chargers played a good game at Barabati,” it added.
