Gambhir to miss game against CSK

Gambhir to miss game against CSK

New Delhi: There is still no word on the seriousness of the injury suffered by Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir suffered a hamstring tear during the game against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. He did not bat and was off the field for a major part of the Mumbai Indians innings.

An update was expected on his injury, but assistant coach Eric Simons informed the press that there is still no word.

"He has gone for a scan this morning to see how bad it is. He was very tender last night. We will by this evening be able to have a jugement on how bad it is and for how long he will be out,'' said Simons in an interaction with the media on the eve of the game against Chennai Super Kings.

Speaking on the extent of the Gambhir injury, Simons presented a grim picture. "He is reasonably sore, reasonably serious. But till we don't get the actual results we cannot definitely ascertain the extent.''

One thing is for sure, Gambhir will be out of action from the next game against Chennai Super Kings. "He won't play tomorrow,'' confirmed Simons.

Gambhir's injury presents an interesting dilemma to the Daredevils management. Gambhir was skipper, No. 1 batsman and opener all in one.

"It’s an interesting one [the situation],we had a long discussion, interesting nets. Twenty20 is all about getting the combination right. So we will put together our thoughts in the next 12-15 hrs and then we will make a call,'' said Simons.
