IPL to conduct hearing with Jadeja

Press Release For Immediate Publication

IPL Governing Council to conduct hearing with Ravindra Jadeja and the two franchises on March 25th

Mumbai, March 23rd 2010: The IPL Governing Council has today announced that it has requested Mr. Arun Jaitley to chair and conduct a fresh hearing into the conduct of banned Rajasthan Royals player Ravindra Jadeja. This is basis an appeal from the cricketer and the two franchises involved, the Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians. The hearing to be chaired by Mr. Jaitely will hear representations from Jadeja and both the franchises involved, prior to reaching a decision. The hearing will be held in Mumbai on March 25th 2010.

Earlier this year in February 2010, the IPL Governing Council had based on a unanimous decision and on instructions from the President of the BCCI, decided to ban India Cricketer – Ravindra Jadeja for a period of one year. The ban was on account of Ravindra Jadeja not signing the renewal contract with the Rajasthan Royals and attempting, instead to negotiate a larger financial contract with another IPL franchise. Thus, resulting in a serious non-adherence to the IPL player guidelines.

Mr. Lalit Modi, Chairman & Commissioner, Indian Premier League today stated, 'The IPL Governing Council has taken a decision to hear Ravindra Jadeja’s plea and will also listen to representations from the two franchises involved, namely the Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians. Arun Jaitley will at the behest of the IPL Governing Council chair the hearing and arrive at a final decision on Ravindra Jadeja and the same shall be binding on all parties concerned.'
