Snappy Report: RCB vs KXIP

Snappy Report: RCB vs KXIP

Match: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kings XI Punjab

When: March 16, 2010

Where: M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

Who won: Royal Challengers Bangalore

How: By a comfortable 8 wickets, with 7 balls to spare

Man-of-the-Match: Jacques Kallis, for a blistering 89* off 55 balls

MVP of the match: Jacques Kallis

What’d he do? Bangalore came out to bat gunning for a total of 204 in front of their home ground. But it was Kallis who stayed solid throughout the innings, leading his side to victory by scoring the winning runs.

Turning point: Mohammed Kaif at long-on tried to get under a Virat Kohli shot, which he dropped, and the ball trickled over the ropes for six.

Dot-ball hero: Praveen Kumar. He didn’t have the best of days, going for 1/43 off his four overs, but was effective in getting the ball to swing sideways and came away with 14 valuable dot balls.

Captain vs. Captain: Both captains didn’t have the best evenings in their departments. Kumble went wicketless, and somehow tried to stem the flow of runs. Sangakkara could only watch helplessly, as his side were decimated by the Bangalore top order, as Kallis, Pandey and Uthappa took all of them to the cleaners.

Off-beat moment: Kumble and Kohli both got hurt in consecutive overs. Kumble was hit on the arm by Bisla’s shot, whereas Kohli lost his footing and slipped during his run-up.

Moment of the day: A thunderous six by Manoj Pandey off Piyush Chwala, which crossed the boundary and reached the second tier of the stands, clocking a distance of a whopping 97 m.

Innovative shot: Mahela Jayawardene played the reverse sweep to perfection off Kallis in the 19th over, clinically putting it between backward point and point.
