Snappy Report: DC vs MI

Match: Deccan Chargers vs Mumbai Indians

When: March 28, 2010, 8 pm

Where: Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai

Who won: Mumbai Indians

How: By 41 runs

Man of the Match: Harbhajan Singh for his all round display of 3-31 and a 49-run blitz.

MVP of the match: Harbhajan Singh for his classical tail-ender’s onslaught – 49* off 18 balls!

What’d he do?: Ask what he did not do! He broke Deccan Charger’s back by swallowing DC captain Adam Gilchrist off the second ball of the innings. To add to that he did his tag of pinch-hitter no harm as he massacred 49* runs off just 18 balls to lift Mumbai Indians to 172-7. Jai ho Bhajji!

Turning point: Harbhajan Singh got rid of the dangerous Gilchrist second ball of the match. The Turbanator put on his thinking cap and got Gilchrist out caught at slip by the Little Master for a duck!

Longest hit: Harbhajan hit Andrew Symonds for a long 91 m six, one of the biggest Bhajji has ever hit, and it cheered the all-blue crowd at the stadium too!

Innovative stroke: Improvisation at it’s best, Rohit Sharma paddle swept a delivery from Kieron Pollard for a boundary behind fine leg.

Dot-ball hero: Fast and furious, Kemar Roach intimidated and unsettled quite a few MI batsmen with his pace and aggression. With just eight scoring shots in his spell he bowled 16 dot balls.

Captain vs Captain: MI batting mainstay and captain Sachin Tendulkar played a steady innings of 55 off 41 and used his shrewd cricketing brain to have Harbhajan bowl at Gilchrist at the top and get his wicket. Adam Gilchrist, on the other hand, captained his side well to control most of the match until Harbhajan came and threw caution to the wind! To add to it, Gilchrist got out early to seriously dent his team’s chances.

Moment of the Match: A usually restrained Sachin went all out to celebrate Gilly’s catch that he held on to magically in the slips. The Master has taken to this format and how!
