Preview: CSK vs RCB

What

The Chennai Super Kings play host to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in what is a must-win match for the men in yellow.

When

Wednesday, March 31, 4pm

Where

The Chennai Super Kings have won only two matches, and both of them were on the road. They have not won a single match at their hallowed 50,000-capacity home ground of MA Chidambaram Stadium. They will be looking to break the jinx and give themselves a much-needed win.

The Protagonists

Maybe it was M S Dhoni’s injury, maybe it has been pressure, but the Chennai Super Kings are not playing like the wily contenders they were in the first two editions of the IPL. Nonetheless, for the Super Kings, all it takes is one inspirational performance to get them roaring again.

The Royal Challengers are sitting pretty in second spot in the table. Anil Kumble’s boys have proved their class in the matches up till now. A loss to the Delhi Daredevils on their home turf will still be fresh in their memories. The arrival of England's most popular batsman Kevin Pietersen gives the side an X-factor.

What next?

If the Chennai Super Kings have the purple cap holder Muttiah Muralidaran, then the Royal Challengers have Jacques Kallis in the form of his life. If Anil Kumble is known for his guile and out-foxing moves, then Dhoni is known for his ability to mow down the opposition. It is an evenly-matched encounter, and a victory or defeat can define either team’s performances for the rest of the tournament.
