The Mumbai Indians, leaders in this year's tournament, take on bottom-placed Kings XI Punjab

When

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Where

The ground where history has been made and records have been broken. The breeding ground of legends, the Brabourne Stadium looks set to host another classic encounter between two teams with much at stake for differing reasons.

The Protagonists

Sachin Tendulkar’s star, as well as that of the Mumbai Indians, seems to be rising. With spectacular versatility, he has made this format of the game into his personal hunting ground. One wonders what it would take to bring down the marauding charge of the Mumbai Indians into the semi-finals. With one foot in the last four already, the Mumbai Indians will be keen to build on their winning run.

The woes of Kings XI Punjab are only being compounded, with their skipper Kumar Sangakkara suspended for this match due to a slow over-rate. Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as their stand-in captain, and will be looking to turn the tables on the team’s miserable form and get back to their winning ways. With Yuvraj Singh hitting a rough patch, they will be hoping for something special from the Caribbean youngster Adrian Barath and their replacement leader for a much-needed victory.

What next?

It’s a battle of top versus bottom. The wounded lions will be sizing up their opposition and looking to strike at the opportune moment. The Kings XI Punjab have had a disastrous start to this tournament and want to roar back into semi-final contention and prove their mettle with a victory. The Mumbai Indians will be aiming to put some real daylight between themselves and their opponents to cement their position at the top of the table.
