'Enjoying my cricket’

Chennai: Murali Vijay was quite the star of the day at MA Chidambaram Stadium with his breathtaking shots against RCB. Vijay's knock ensured that the hosts kept their campaign alive. Here’s what the star had to say during the post-match media interaction.

Excerpts

On the knock: Actually I am very happy that my contribution has helped the team big time. We won the match - that’s more important. I enjoy batting here in Chennai, my home ground - I know the wicket. So I just went on - just enjoyed my cricket.

On his aggressive approach: See this match really mattered to everybody, to each and every person in the dressing room. We were looking forward to … playing really well, playing good cricket. We just wanted to win this match first, so that we stayed in the hunt, so [this win was] really important for us. We had a really good speech before the match, so it really helped. Everybody was pumped up, we just went out there and enjoyed our cricket.

On whether Indian players in CSK proved a point: I proved a lot of things to myself […] Getting runs in Twenty20 is a little difficult [because of this] kind of pressure. I really enjoyed this knock, you can take it that way.

On being called a Test match specialist: I would really [love to be called] Test match specialist because I love to play Test match cricket. This format is really intense […] It tests you actually - physically as well as mentally. So it’s a good challenge, yeah.

On not being able to finish off the innings: Maybe I have got to work on that. Maybe I got out at the wrong time actually. Maybe I could have stayed and we would have won comfortably. I am working on that, let’s see. [I] hope for the best.

On CSK's semi-final hopes: We are actually taking [it] match by match like. I concentrated on this match and we got our results so we’re just concentrating on the next match which is coming up [against] Rajasthan Royals. We are just concentrating on the next match.

On his message to fans: Enjoy cricket!
