'Ready to bolster Daredevils’ ranks'

Delhi: Here’s one foreigner who feels that raising the cap of overseas players in the playing XI of IPL teams would be detrimental for domestic players.

All-rounder Paul Collingwood, England Twenty20 captain, is of the opinion that a platform like the IPL provides young domestic players a chance to experience pressure situations and grow. The 33-year-old Delhi Daredevils player told the media after a practice season on Monday, "The IPL gives a chance to the Indian players to experience pressure situations and evolve as players."

"It is good for seasoned professionals like me to come and play in the IPL, but it will mean lesser chances for those slogging it out on the domestic circuit here," the all-rounder said.

Collingwood could be that middle-order mainstay that the Daredevils have been looking for. The Daredevils have one of the best batting-orders, consisting of Virender Sehwag, David Warner, AB de Villiers and Tillakaratne Dilshan, but it still wears a rather unsettled look due to the absence of Gautam Gambhir in recent matches due to injury.

The batsmen who follow these stalwarts haven’t been up to the mark. "I hope I am able to help bolster the middle-order if I get to play. This is a good team and one capable of beating any side," he said.

DD coach Greg Shippard has also endorsed Collingwood's view and was hopeful of putting it across KKR. "Kolkata have a big hitter like Chris Gayle at the top of the order and someone like Sourav Ganguly to follow, but we have a number of players who can win matches," he said. The Daredevils face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday night at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
