Triple success thrills modest Pathan

Ahmedabad: Yusuf Pathan celebrated his appointment as Rajasthan Royals vice-captain with a breathtaking innings against Deccan Chargers. Later on he discovered he had made India’s ICC World Twenty20 squad. Yet he was as unassuming as ever when he spoke to the media following his 73 not out off 34 balls.

Excerpts:

On his innings: obviously I am very happy. The way we played in Mumbai, we lost by four runs, I was not able to finish the game but here we won, so I am happy with the runs I scored and as a group we played well.

On his inclusion for World T20: Obviously very happy with making runs and being in the final 15. I didn’t know earlier about the team selection announcement as I was in my namaz. But I am very happy with the match win, the runs and the team selection.

On the coming World T20: Obviously there is happiness. I am playing well and Insha Allah will play well there as well.

On the responsibility of being vice-captain: Obviously responsibility does come on you and we are doing well as a group. You don’t score runs in all matches, sometimes it is 200, 100 or sometimes 0. But whenever I play a knock for my team it will be a match-winning knock - I have full confidence in that.
